HIT THE SLOPES: OUR SNOW-APPROVED SKI WEAR

Ski attire, like all “practical” winter gear, has had a long history of being less than flattering. Let’s face it, when it comes to defending yourself from the blistering cold, freezing rain and snow storm included, staying stylish can quickly fall to the back of the priorities list. However, after viewing the 2022.23 après-ski collections of buzz-worthy brands like Zara, Khaite, and Moncler, I have no doubt that we can brave the slopes without sacrificing our passion for fashion.

From foot to forehead, here are some of our favorite snow-approved pieces guaranteed to keep you looking—and feeling—super hot.

The Coat:

Arguably the make-or-break aspect of the look, a down jacket can have you feeling like a Swedish supermodel, or the Michelin man, at the pull of a thermo-sealed zipper. Although puffers have been ruling media screens since the 90’s comeback, you could easily opt for a parka, or zip-through jacket to insure you do not lose yourself underneath all of that volume.

The Pants:

No shivering legs will be seen at the chalets this holiday season. Strap-in for a lovable ski bib (the name does not sell the item, but the designs do). Or, if you prefer your trousers with no strings attached, you can always choose to wear a slim fit standard. Of course, there are also the one-piece options for those seeking an effortlessly sporty appearance, since nothing is more impressive than a fashionable snowsuit.

The Boots:

The only shoes worth speaking of in regards to heavy snow are the ones that keep your feet well covered, and your toes alive. Whether they're platformed or minimalistic, as long as they keep the heat in, and the snow out, they get our stamp of approval.

The Headgear:

Prepare for the mom message: you need to put on a hat. Your poor ears are going to turn a sickly shade of blue, and there are just not enough earrings that compliment that color change. Save yourself hours of defrosting your lobes with your fingers, and loads of pain attempting to stop the ringing you will definitely be hearing for the remainder of the night. Beanies are versatile, and puffball knits never go out of style. If you are having a great hair day and cannot risk catching a case of helmet head, grab an ear warmer, or wool-blend headwrap instead. Add in a pair of filtered goggles, and head for those black diamond hills with confidence.

EXPLORE VANITY STORIES

Abigail Kussow

Somewhere between driving forty-eight minutes to get to the nearest Sephora, and getting a degree in Anthropology, I found myself–-as many of us do– utterly dissatisfied with where I was headed. I would pick up extra hours at the university library because it gave me access to the latest issues Condé Nast had to offer, and I was guilty of the cardinal sin of wearing my favorite pair of sling-back mules in the laboratory. When the novelty of being in academia wore off, I clung to the joy I found in the novels of Joan Didion, and clips of fashion week that trickled down my social media feeds. Hi, I’m Abigail, and like my fellow VS authors, clean beauty and writing are part of the lifestyle. I refuse to divorce myself from monochrome minimalism and subtle plum lipstick. I’m a fervent believer that mascara should be layered on top and bottom. Shoes are just as important as your manicure, and perfume is best when it doesn’t crowd the room. I am the #caférecluse on her 2009-2012 Rachel McAdams aesthetic binge, and I wear it well.
