ITALIAN SUMMER FASHION

After living in Italy for 4 months, here is my take on how cool girls dress for their summer vacay to Italy.

Starting off with the overall aesthetic. Italians dress simple, classic, and extremely put-together. Not to say you can’t put your own spin on things, but a fashion-forward Italian loves interesting silhouettes and neutral colors. Comfort is also key, so aim for breathability and loose structures.

Dresses

My go-to piece of advice for someone looking to be comfortable and cute when traveling is to invest in flowy dresses. Not only are they comfortable, but they are an easy garment to throw on when you are in a rush or don’t feel like investing your time in creating an outfit. Pair with a sneaker, flat, or a (comfortable) strappy sandal, accessorize, and you’re done!

Matching Sets

In addition to dresses, matching sets are an easy way to look put-together without any hassle. Perfect for throwing on over your bathing suit and exploring, matching sets are an effortless way to look and feel your best.

Accessories

To accessorize, I enjoy pairing a simple dress with interesting vintage jewelry. This elevates an otherwise plain outfit. Eclectic and Renaissance-era jewelry are key, as they mimic the historic architecture and traditions of Italian fashion.

A good bag is crucial for your trip. It should match all of your outfits and be durable. Consider investing in a cross-body bag for extra safety.

Lastly, to add interest to any outfit, scarves are a perfect accessory. Their versatility makes them a crucial element to pack with you on your trip, as you can wear them as a top, a headband, a skirt for your bikini, and even tie them to your bag or hat to add color.

Tank Tops

For everyday adventures, a classic tank top paired with a flowy skirt, tennis skirt, jean shorts, cargo shorts, basketball shorts, or linen pants will suffice. To add more interest, include a thin, oversized, flowy button-up. Remember, comfort is key. Allow your accessories and shoes to elevate the outfit.

Swimwear

Finally, let's talk about swimwear. Vintage styles and subtle prints are perfect for a trip to the Amalfi Coast or Portofino. You can play around with colors and patterns here because they will be paired with your neutral pieces. Throw on your flowy dress or matching set, some strappy sandals, your bag with a scarf tied to it, some sunglasses, and you're all set! If you enjoyed this piece, you will enjoy Italian Girl Makeup and European Staycation.
