And we’re here for it, especially when we see the same floral patterns and olive-green dresses make their way into style every single year.
Monochromatic fashion refers to an outfit that consists of one color. Although it started as a hit at spring and summer runway collections in fashion weeks this year, especially from the attendees, it also draws inspiration from something else that took the world by storm. The desert looks and fully hooded dresses from “Dune: Part 2” pushed an extreme form of this trend, especially since we could find inspiration from fashion powerhouses in the making Zendaya and Florence Pugh.
Most people won’t wear the trend this way, but it certainly looks fun.
This trend popped up so quickly and is sticking around for the long haul because it’s accessible to everyone. In fact, it’s barely a trend when we start looking around in our closets. We don’t necessarily have to buy anything to achieve it (unless we’re recreating Zendaya’s silver and robotic suit from the press tour, of course).
These hues and silhouettes exhibit a level of timeless elegance that makes it come back into style over and over again, and as long as you can put an all-black or all-white look together, you’ve achieved this effortlessness that appears far from it.
Historically, the monochrome color palette was reserved to black, white, grey and beige shades. This could manifest into a stunning little white dress and purse, an oversized blazer with matching tights, an aloeswood jacket paired with the right skirt or a grey two-piece suit. Pair minimalistic silver rings or gold necklaces to enhance the outfit’s hue and brighten everything up.
Play around with different textures to form a monochromatic look, such as leather, cotton and lace. In fact, jean fabric may be the perfect way to incorporate monochrome fashion into your existing wardrobe while bridging the line between comfortable streetwear and chic.
The best part about monochrome is that it doesn’t fit one fashion style. Monochromatic pieces can lean boho, sophisticated, maximalist, slightly grunge and preppy. Don’t be afraid to change the trend to fit your personal style. Embrace the trend in your own way and on your own terms.
